Receiving visitors from abroad
Standing Surety for Foreign Visitors
If you are expecting visitors from abroad, you may need to apply for a declaration of financial support or private accommodation. Your visitors may require this when applying for a visa.
By providing financial support, you ensure that your guest does not encounter difficulties if they can no longer cover their stay in the Netherlands. For instance, this could happen if your guest no longer has access to their money. In such a case, you are jointly responsible for your guest's expenses.
If your foreign visitor is staying at your home, you will need to arrange private accommodation.
The financial support is valid for a stay of up to 3 months in the Netherlands. In this situation, you must have your signature for the declaration of financial support or private accommodation legalized at the municipality: These are the conditions for standing surety: If your visitor does not require a visa, you do not need to sign the form at the municipality. You apply for the declaration of financial support and private accommodation at the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND). You do this by filling out the IND application form. With this form, you go to the municipality to sign (legalize) it. If you have a partner, you must sign the declaration together. You sign the form at the counter in the Huis voor de Stad. Please make an appointment first (see 'forms'). You pay for the declaration of financial support when submitting your application. You will also need: Your valid ID The completed application form, which you have not yet signed The signature legalization for the declaration of financial support is done while you wait.
