Information for refugees in English
Here, you find information for refugees in English.
All locations in the Netherlands are full. If possible, try to arrange a place to stay yourself.
Vulnerable people can still report to the national registration center in the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht. There they try to find a place for you to stay for a longer period of time.
Schedule an appointment for registration. For an appointment to register, please call 14 0492.
You need documents that prove that you have Ukrainian nationality. Children within the family can also be registered in the BRP without documents. Do you not have Ukrainian nationality but have you also fled Ukraine? Then you can also register if the following points apply to you:
- You can prove your identity and nationality;
- You can show that you had a temporary or permanent residence permit for Ukraine on February 23, 2022.
It is important that you register with our municipality (the Personal Records Database - BRP). You need this registration in order to get financial support, in order to work in the Netherland, and to register with a school.
Are you moving abroad?
Don’t forget to deregister from the municipality. Please contact us on telephone number 14 0492.
Are you moving to another municipality in the Netherlands?
Register with your new municipality. You will then automatically be deregistered in Helmond.
Did you flee from Ukraine because of the war and are you registered with the municipality? Then you can make an appointment for proof of residence at the Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND). You can get a sticker from the IND for your passport. This is proof that you are allowed to live and work in the Netherlands.
Please go to the website of the IND to make an appointment.
Yes. The national government has determined all refugees from Ukraine who are registered in the Municipal Personal Records Database (BRP) receive a monthly living allowance.
This is an amount of money for food, drinks, care products and clothing to pay for your stay in the Netherlands. It depends on your situation how much living allowance you receive.
The living allowance for the whole family is paid into the Dutch bank account (from March 1) of one of the parents or guardians. You can open a Dutch bank account at any bank in the Netherlands.
Living allowance amounts can be found on the website of the central government
The amount you receive depends on your family composition. Read more about the living allowance amounts on the website of the central government.
Senzer ensures that you receive the living allowance
Ukrainian refugees residing in Helmond can apply for the living allowance at Senzer. Registered refugees receive a letter from Senzer with information about this.
Visit the Senzer website for more information about the financial support. The information on their website is also available in Ukrainian.

Yes. If you (or your partners) starts doing paid work as a refugee from Ukraine, you are no longer entitled to financial support. The financial support of all family members is then no longer necessary and will end. If a minor family member starts doing paid work, only the financial support for this family member will end.
Working Ukrainians do not need to take out health insurance.
From 1 April, refugees are allowed to work in paid employment. Your employer must notify UWV (Employee Insurance Agency) if you are employed. To be able to work you need a personal number (BSN), for this you need to be registered in Helmond. If you start doing paid work and earn more than the living allowance, the financial support from the municipality stops.
All children in the Netherlands have to go to school, regardless of their residence status.
Because of the numbers of children that are staying in the locations in Helmond, it is not possible to accommodate this at the existing schools in Helmond. That is why, together with schools and childcare, we organize education and a play-learn group at a central educational location. The adress is Nachtegaallaan 40, 5702 KN Helmond.
Ukrainian children who already go to school, continue to do so at the relevant school until the summer holidays. Children who now come to live in Helmond and do not yet go to school can register for education at the central education location.
Children who stay in surrounding municipalities Geldrop-Mierlo, Asten, Someren, Gemert-Bakel, Boekel, Laarbeek en Deurne who do not yet receive education in the municipality where they reside, can also register for education at the central education location in Helmond. They may also choose to register their child at a primary school in the municipality where they reside.

Most healthcare in the Netherlands is provided by the general practitioner. If specialist care is required, the general practitioner will refer you to a specialist. All necessary healthcare costs are reimbursed for a refugee from Ukraine. This means that you will receive free care if it cannot be postponed. More information is available on the website of the national government, also in Ukrainian.
